You Can Quote Me

Getting back on track with my timeliness!

Today is part of my year-long One Little Word,  Serenity. Long time followers (or indeed anyone who has kids or works in a manic environment – oh look, everybody then!) knows that I am often looking to find a moment of peace.

Here’s something added to my pinterest board today. It’s going on my office wall today too. Visual aids!

Recently I came across an ad for a Max Lucado Easter devotion. I have no idea where I stumbled across the ad but it’s led me to this app.

bible app

And next to Facebook & WordPress, it’s my favourite app. I could lie, and say it is my favourite, but we all know I spend far too much time chatting on FB in the groups. Or oogling stitched works. And I have to say WordPress, ‘cause it’s so much better than Blogger, and well, what am I publishing on?!

Anyway, what it sets you up with are short, functional devotionals. There are plenty available, all sorts of themes – I am currently working away on a Newsboys one, based on one of their albums. There are other functions here too, I just haven’t explored properly, but I have used the Verse/Image option. And changed the format to NIV, as that is what I am used to.

Here’s the links for both Android and iCrap:

You can even work online – here’s the current plan: https://www.bible.com/reading-plans/940-we-believe-devotions-from-newboys

With regards to Newsboys, I have loved them since I was a teen. Breakfast is still one of the catchiest songs! & I love this cover.adoration

Often we need to go to our special place. A place that rejuvenates us. It may be a place where we do something specific, talk to a certain someone, listen to something, just be ourselves.

It’s far too easy to forget to go to this place when we lead busy lives. REMINDER TO SELF: it’s really, really important to allow yourself this time & place.

So go on, get to your place this weekend. Hope it sets you up for a positive, productive week ahead.

Here’s something to think on as we head into the Easter period.

I believe it was through His actions on the cross that we have been graced. And now is up to us to serve a purpose.

Service begins at home and at work. It’s not just for church or in the view of others, so that we garner praise. It’s in the quiet, where no one sees. It’s in the everyday.

I hope you feel God’s grace on you this holiday weekend. That you feel safe and blessed with family, friends and rich memories.

OLW Have Courage & Be KindOn Wednesday night I went with my darling Louise and semi-adopted Aliese to the Chick Flick choice, Cinderella.

I can totally recommend this movie for your child, teen, whatever – as long as they’re female. Little boys will be making barf noises in the background as this movie is unashamedly romantic and fluffy, and the only sword scene is just fencing practice. As with most Kenneth Branagh directed movies, it’s lush, textured and beautiful and as with most Disney traditional movies, there’s the theme rolling through. In this case, it’s one we should encourage our kids to adopt as their motto.

Have Courage, and be Kind.

March WIPocalypse & You Can Quote Me

March 5  – Topic: If money – and time – were not limiters, what projects would be on your stitching bucket list?

I’d own a LNS. Seriously. I love walking into a well-stocked store, smelling the fabric, looking at row upon row of patterns, threads, beads. Samples lying around, a farmhouse table where people could meet, framed examples on the walls. Knowledgeable sharing people on staff (and me, of course) and a really good back-of-house system where sales & inventory meet. Fantastic non-whinging customers with open wallets, so I can keep on buying and trading.

Taking a step back, I’d be plowing thru more Mirabilia, and maybe a HAED or another BAP. Finishing some Teresa Wenztlers, playing with dyeing my own fabric. I’d have a craft room that had bolts of fabric and hook after hook of thread & beads so that when I wanted to change something out I could see the possibilities. Space for my home office setup and space for another person (or 2) to craft with me.

I’d also hire a cleaning service. I’d probably have to pay them double to deal with the boy’s bathroom, but it would be worth it.

And for this week’s quote: no pretty picture, just words. Don’t argue with an idiot. Bystanders can’t tell the difference.

“He Said” by Group 1 Crew
(feat. Chris August)

So your life feels like it don’t make sense
And you think to yourself, “I’m a good person”
So why do these things keep happening?
Why you gotta deal with them?

You may be knocked down now
But don’t forget what He said, He said:

“I won’t give you more, more than you can take
And I might let you bend, but I won’t let you break
And No, I’ll never ever let you go”
Don’t you forget what He said

Who you are ain’t what you’re going through
So don’t let it get the best of you
‘Cause God knows everything you need,
So you ain’t gotta worry

You may be knocked down now
But just believe what He said, He said:

“I won’t give you more, more than you can take
And I might let you bend, but I won’t let you break
And No-o, I’ll never ever let you go”
Don’t you forget what He said

Don’t fear when you go through the fire
Hang on when it’s down to the wire
Stand tall and remember what He said:

“I won’t give you more, more than you can take
And I might let you bend, but I won’t let you break…”

“I won’t give you more, more than you can take
And I might let you bend, but I won’t let you break
And No, I’ll never ever let you go”
Don’t you forget what He said
Don’t you forget what He said
Don’t you forget what He said (I want give you more)
I want give you more
What He said

You Can Quote Me: Grateful for…book recommends

book_smRecently I’ve been struggling with the actions of an extended family member – it’s amazing. You chose someone, they chose you, & everything is expected to go swimmingly. It doesn’t. Not even in fairytales.

But I’ve learnt a few things this week, and I now have a post-it front page of my planner. It’s there to remind me:

It’s none of my business to know what X thinks of me. It’s OK to ignore (the bad behaviour). It’s OK to walk away. It’s OK to limit time spent with X. It’s OK to ask X politely to leave my home.

I’m finding this simple but powerful. It reminds me it’s not OK to be rude or mirror what is done to me. To that end, I’ve removed or blocked X from my social media accounts, and interestingly (as he didn’t like what X tagged him in or implied what he was) B has chosen to do the same. I’ve chosen not to name X, as that would be equally wrong. But my little finding this week might be helpful to someone else, so I chose to share.

I came to this finding reading a couple of blogs and discovering a book (I know, what a shock). I’ve only read some excerpts but I’m heading to a Manna today to get the paperback & the study guide.

http://thebestyes.com/ The Best Yes is about coming to a biblical understanding of the commandment to love one another. If you click into the link, you can read chapter one for free & see some other material. I don’t think that the concept about loving one another is necessary only for Christians; having respect & empathy for our fellow man is a concept that rings true in most religions, even Wicca’s “and it harm none” is the same directive as Jesus’ commandment in John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (NIV). Even if you profess to be an atheist, I’m sure you have a respect & empathy for others.

The other book could be just as important. Ali Edwards (one little word) contributed to The Fringe Hours, by Jessica N Turner ( http://www.themomcreative.com/ ) which is about using time you already carve out for FaceTwitGram & using it effectively to renew your soul. Ali blogged about it here http://aliedwards.com/2015/02/the-fringe-hours?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+aliedwards+%28Ali+Edwards+2014%29 The image above is going on my phone to remind me. I also find this quote meaningful:
