WIP Wednesday #211

As per my goals, I’m working away on Ashley’s Roses. I filled in the missing portions around the top garland, her hair & skin then I treated myself to the back stitch (yes, with Mira/Nora this is a treat. It’s how it all comes together). I did change the colour however as the charted is 844 & that’s odd to me! Now I’m working on her skirt bow (just the blend left), then the gaps in her skirt and the last item will be the garland. Then it’s off to Melinda, who will be the last before it returns to Becca.

I can’t wait to see mine back.

WIPocalypse 2018 Intro

WIPocalypse is hosted by Mel at her blog http://measi.net/measiblog/ 2017 was the seventh year of the SAL, and my third year participating; it’s my favourite SAL, mostly due to the host organisation (which is spot on), the range of topics & the wide variety of stitchers participating. There’s always something to oooh over!

January 7 – Introduce yourself, your projects, and any goals you have for the year!

So for those of you new to my blog, my name is Paula & I live in Auckland, NZ. My partner & I have four children, ranging from 23 to 8 & we both work full time, plus have plenty to do outside of work & home, so I can already predict that 2018 isn’t going to be my biggest stitchy year. BUT at least this year my plans are realistic!!

IMG_20180106_073029_085So my focus pieces for 2018 (given that I want to end in the black for Stitch From Stash also) are in order of attention (bracket date indicates the start month & year):

  • Mirabilia Ashley’s Roses Round Robin section (Dec 2018)
  • Semco Toy Story Sampler (October 2013) – Zac will be 15 soon, & this needs to be done before then! But first I have to hunt it down…
  • Mirabilia Fairy Idyll (September 2017) – Gail has loaned me the chart, & I want to return it this year
  • TW Tapestry Cat (Dec 2006!) – because it deserves progress
  • Mirabilia Persephone (May 2015) –because I want to get thru that skirt!
  • Jane Austen SAL (December 2017) –because I want to keep up with the readings

42068-1I brought Si the Lego Technic Fire Rescue set on Friday & we sat down last night, telly on in the background (8 out of Ten Cats & Taskmaster Season 5, if you’re that interested) and stitched/bricked and talked into the late hours. He starts back at work today so that may not have been the brightest idea ever, but I found that as his hands were busy, they weren’t constantly changing channel & I could focus more on the stitching. I’m up to a bit where the symbols beside each other are shades of the same colour – a filled in heart & a filled in upside down triangle. I see a frog in my future!

I have virtually NOTHING to show you all for the last month’s work. There’s a little progress on Fairy Idyll, a little more beading on Jamaica, I picked up Mill Hill Believe for a road trip & am nearly done with the last third of the stitching, Honey  Pot *may* have seen a little more action but November has kicked my butt. Last night, I finally finished the greenery of Rose of Sharon for Becca’s piece so at least I got to something!

20171127_053952November goals:

  • Leave Fairy Idyll as the focus piece – YES or at least until the round robin piece arrived
  • Bead & FFO both Jamaica Santa pieces – NO
  • Bead & FFO Mill Hill Autumn Harvest Honey Pot pieces (started yesterday at work) – NO

December goals:

  • Complete Rose of Sharon for the round robin
  • Finish the uncompleted portions of Ashley’s Roses & Lady of the Mist
  • Bead & FFO both Jamaica Santa pieces
  • Stitch some Rhianna Fendi slippers for my work secret santa (plastic canvas ornie)

Question of the Month: What finishing style have you never tried but would love to do? I’d like to do a wall hanging for something a little different. Or a stocking. I’ve planned to do a couple but I haven’t even begun any.

#craft31days day eight

I’m down to 5% battery so let’s make this quick.

The bathroom is clean & clear of all the debris. 840kg worth, people. My wrist & shoulders hurt. Simon started nailing down the new tile slate tonight. With “help”.

I managed to get a decent hour or two in Fairy Idyll after everyone else went to bed. Hooray! That’s another 250+ stitches in this weekend.

Hope your weekend was as productive!

#craft31days day four

So no true WIP Wednesday post today & probably not for the rest of October. I’m just planning to stay on track with the #craft31days prompt.

So far I love how much progress I am getting in on Fairy Idyll. This is an older (1996!) Mira that I’ve wanted to do for ages, which is adding to my momentum & work ethic.

Tonight I took The Screaming Teen into his pt session in town. That’s an hour of sitting around; I watched some netflix (the Gaga doc) & stitched, as I’d remembered that but not my hoodie. Doh.

So today maybe 180 stitches plus a bit of BS. I’m trying to do that as I go.

Tomorrow morning my wrist is being scanned, as its not healing fast enough. 8 weeks & I still get pain when I hold something & use force, like a door handle or can opener. It’s frustrating. Hopefully it’s nothing broken.

#craft31days day three

I was pretty lazy around the house tonight. Dinner, washing, not a lot else. Some reading, some playing, some mediating. As you do with three boys in the house!

Anyway, lots more again on Fairy Idyll. Another 450+ stitches. The gold/green drape is nearly complete to the point I’ll flip this 180 & work on the post.

And yeah. That frog visited a few times. Blast.

#craft31days day 2

This afternoon was wet and wild again – spring has come in like a lion! My lettuce seedlings had only been in the raised bed for a week & now they’re all scrunched up in one corner. I think I’ll be buying more this weekend 🥕 the carrot & 🥒 cucumber seedlings were still in the tray on the kitchen windowsill, so they aren’t a write-off.

I mucked around with the kids for a bit then settled in. With mum coming home to a clean kitchen & clean bedrooms comes great reward… no time limit on the wii! I grabbed a notebook as I really want to record my progress on Fairy Idyll. I’m conscious this chart is a loan, & I want to get it back to Gail as soon as I can.

So. 18 thread lengths & as I average 25-27 stitches with DMC, that’s a massive 450-486 stitches tonight. And I cooked dinner, folded washing, hung another load on the rack… really happy with the progress but I know not every night will be like this.
